Lordswood’s FA Cup dream ended in a miserable fashion as they shipped five goals after taking the lead. The game stared with Pagham having the first chance when in the first minute a corner to the backpost saw Steven Boston head just over the bar, but after that Lordswood dominated for the next 20 minutes. In the 4th minute a corner to the backpost saw Chris Eather head back across goal which was headed just past the post by a Pagham defender. Two minutes later another corner to the backpost saw Wes Hammond’s header back across goal flicked just past the post by Danny Cook. Then in the 15th minute Lordswood took a deserved lead when Jamie Humphris on the left saw his low cross evade everyone except Matt McHugh on the far post and he stroked the ball home. Suddenly the game changed as Lordswood stopped playing and Pagham got back into the game and it was no surprise when they equalised in the 24th minute when a cross into the area was met by George Gaskin’s bullet header beating Sean Funnell. In the 33rd minute Pagham took the lead when a ball forward saw Michael Frangou get to it and from 20 yards saw his shot beat Funnell at his near post. Two minutes later it nearly became three as James Misslebrook running forward saw his shot from 15 yards parried away by Funnell for a corner. Then in the 39th minute Pagham scored their third in bizarre fashion as Funnell received a back pass after the Pagham forwards had closed the Lordswood defenders down and Scott Murfin running towards Funnell saw his clearance hit him and rebound into the net.
At half time the Lordswood players received the hairdryer approach from Jason and John, but in the 51st minute a Darren Pearce free kick into Frangou 15 yards out saw Chris Eather foul him and a penalty was given, up stepped Frangou who shot straight down the middle beating Funnell all ends up. In the 57th minute Lordswood nearly got a goal back when Peter Huggens on the backpost saw his header cleared off the line and it went straight to the keeper. In the 64th minute Frangou and Scott Murfin combined on the edge of the area and Murfin’s effort was saved by Funnell. Another half chance fell to Huggins as again his backpost header was cleared off the line. In the last 20 minutes of the game Pagham strolled to victory and could have had a couple more goals but only one was scored when, firstly in the 71st minute, Frangou latched onto a long clearance and went into the area but his shot was parried away by Funnell. Then in the 75th minute a corner was only half cleared and Frangou 15 yards out saw his shot go through a crowd of people into the net for his hat trick. The final whistle went and the Lordswood Management looked dejected after such a woeful performance after starting off so well.
