Lordswood’s recent improvement over the last three games came to an abrupt end as Greenwich Boro controlled the game with Lordswood having a few chances.
Lordswood started off well, and in the 6th minute were unlucky not to take the lead when a corner to the far post was retrieved by Ray Broad, whose goal bound shot was deflected onto the post by a defender for a corner. Two minutes later, Greenwich took the lead when a shot was deflected into the path of Richard Monan who volleyed over Rowan Arnott from 8 yards. Two minutes later it was two nil, as Ryan Watts saw his cross into the area miscontrolled by Luke Mortimer, and Mark Sisson latched onto it and shot home. In a rare attack, Alec Osborne nearly got a goal back in the 13th minute, when a ball into the area was half cleared and his volley from 20 yards went just wide. In the 23rd minute, a free kick 20 yards out centrally was curled round the wall and just past the post by Kevin Seffah. In the 26th minute, Louis Bajeux found himself in the area, but his shot was saved by Arnott. Another rare chance for Lordswood came in the 29th minute, when Osborne combined with Darren Bridges and went into the area. He won a tackle and saw his shot superbly saved by Danny Firkins in the Boro’ goal. The last chance of the half came in the 38th minute, when Bridges’ free kick from 25 yards out was tipped over the bar by the keeper.
The second half saw Lordswood bring on all three subs to get back into the game, but with 2 minutes gone a long ball forward saw Danny Hunt give chase. He tried to chip Arnott but the Lordswood Keeper was able to grab it. Then disaster struck 3 minutes later. Another long ball forward saw Sisson chase after it. Arnott came out of his area and attempted to clear it, but missed his kick altogether, allowing Sisson to shoot into an empty net. In the 54th minute Kyle Demetrius’s cross to the back post found Hunt, and his header goalwards was palmed away by Arnott. Greenwich were now in total control and could have scored more, but their finishing lacked conviction. The Lordswood players kept going, and in the 74th minute Mark Rothery received the ball from Kevin Skinner, but his shot from 25 yards went just past the post. Lordswood got a consolation goal in the 88th minute when a free kick into the area was missed by everyone except Luke Mortimer on the back post, and he headed in.
