HOME DEFEAT FAILS TO DAMPEN LORDSWOOD'S SPIRITS - Medway Messenger - Fri 5th March 2010
Lordswood assistant manager John Guest is staying upbeat despite two successive Bulmers Cider Kent League Premier Division home defeats this week.
They also finished both games with 10 men, defender Andy Forster sent-off for the second time this season for two bookings in the 3-0 defeat at home to Greenwich Borough on Tuesday, the fourth meeting between the clubs this season.
Guest said: “We started well and had enough chances, but we are a little bit lacking in that department, and one or two elementary defensive errors didn’t do us any favours either. I thought Andy’s sending-off was a little harsh, but he was fractionally late with his tackle. We are heading in the right direction on and off the field, but have taken two or three steps forward and one back.”
Lords trailed to a ninth minute opener by Michael Jones, but could have been back on terms when Rob Norman’s effort was cleared off the line. A mistake by Rowan Arnott gifted Greenwich their second after 17 minutes, dropping Micah Banton’s cross over his own line. Adam Hooper’s 35 yard effort was saved before Forster got his marching orders.
A poor first half became even worse nine minutes before the break, when Borough’s Danny Hunt blasted home a penalty. Lordswood battled away in the second half with little reward, despite the visitors seeming to ease up. They went close to pulling one back when Rob Norman’s shot was saved.
Guest has confirmed that Roy Guiver has left to re-join Folkestone Invicta. Lordswood are without a game this weekend.
